New collaborations album from Norah Jones coming November

On November 2 Blue Note Records is releasing “…Featuring;” an album of Norah Jones‘s musical collaborations spanning her career.

“It’s so exciting and flattering and fun when I get asked to sing with somebody that I admire,” says Jones. “It takes you a little bit out of your comfort zone when you’re doing something with another artist. You don’t know what to expect—it’s kind of like being a little kid and having a playdate.”

Jones’s unique vocals and musicianship have been very much in-demand among some of the most respected artists today. Jones’s duets on “…Featuring” include songs with music legends Willie Nelson, Ray Charles and Herbie Hancock, chart heavy hitters Outkast and Foo Fighters, as well as with friends and tour mates M. The album includes a song Jones did with Sean Bones, from the soundtrack to the film “Wah Do Dem” (Norah also co-stars). The film won Best Feature when it premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival in 2009 and it will be out on DVD in the US on October 26. Check out a preview here:

Blue Note Records to Release “…Featuring ” on Nov. 2, A Star-Studded Collection of Norah Jones’s Musical Collaborations

On November 2, EMI’s Blue Note Records will release “…Featuring,” a star-studded collection of the multi-platinum selling, multi-Grammy Award winning singer Norah Jones’s musical collaborations from the past decade. The 18 songs on the album include duets with such legends as Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, and Dolly Parton, and with 21st Century icons from OutKast to the Foo Fighters.

The tracks on “…Featuring” span her entire career, from one of her earliest recording sessions (a version of Roxy Music’s “More Than This” with guitarist Charlie Hunter in 2001) to her most recent performance, a song called “Little Lou, Ugly Jack, Prophet John” that she cut with Belle and Sebastian, which will also appear on their new album. The result serves as a kind of parallel history to her own four albums, which have sold over 40 million copies worldwide.

These collaborations reveal Jones’s astonishing musical versatility, from jazz to country, hip-hop to rock. Three of the songs on “…Featuring” originally appeared on records that won Grammy awards for Album of the Year (Ray Charles’ Genius Loves Company, Herbie Hancock’s “River: The Joni Letters,” and OutKast’s “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below”), and several others were also nominated for Grammys.

The album also includes recordings by some of Jones’s own bands and side projects (The Little Willies and El Madmo), and performances with artists that she’s toured with including M. Ward, Sasha Dobson, and Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. Songs on “…Featuring” range from classics recorded by Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Joni Mitchell, and Roy Orbison to new material by such wide-ranging innovators as Ryan Adams and Q-Tip.

“A lot of the people on this record are people I’ve worshiped since I was a kid, and some of them are younger and more my contemporaries,” says Jones. “Even though the musicians are so varied, the vibe of the songs makes sense when we put them all together.”

Norah Jones goes “Road Trippin’ with Ice Cream Man”

At the Bonnaroo Festival earlier this month, Norah Jones took time out from her main performance to enjoy a little ice cream and wound up doing an acoustic set for the webisode series “Road Trippin’ with Ice Cream Man.” Tune in at about the 3:30 minute mark to see the Blue Note songstress perform “Man of the Hour” from her latest album “The Fall,” or watch all the way through to catch a set from Los Angeles band Local Natives.

EMI Music at Glastonbury Festival

Glastonbury, the UK’s largest music festival, begins today in Somerset with a host of EMI artists to check out if you’re heading that way.

Friday’s line-up kicks off the festival in style with Corinne Bailey Rae, Snoop Dogg and, what promises to be a dazzling headline performance from Gorillaz, all on the Pyramid Stage while the Other Stage hosts festival favourites Hot Chip.

On Saturday UK grime star Tinie Tempah will be in the East Dance tent immediately followed by Roll Deep. Mercury nominees Laura Marling and Jamie T perform on The Park and John Peel stages with Pet Shop Boys on the Other stage.

Sunday starts with the gorgeous Norah Jones at the Pyramid Stage and rising star Professor Green in the East Dance tent. LCD Soundsystem and Empire Of The Sun bring things to a close on Sunday evening on the Other and Park Stages.

Norah Jones to Brooklyn fans: “Thanks for getting soggy with us!”

Last night Norah Jones kicked off the “Celebrate Brooklyn” summer concert series with a free concert in Prospect Park, and not even a driving rain could keep the 5,000-plus fans in attendance from enjoying the performance while huddled under umbrellas. Blue Note’s songstress played a 2-hour set to those who braved the rain. “What a beautiful bouquet of umbrellas! Thanks for coming out and getting soggy with us,” Jones told the crowd.

Ms. Jones will take the stage tomorrow as part of the “Good Morning America” Summer Concert Series in New York’s Central Park, before plays Bonnaroo in Tennessee this weekend.

Her fourth album “The Fall” has gone platinum in the US and is currently at #9 in Amazon’s MP3 store.

Free Norah Jones concert in NYC tonight; new UK single confirmed

If you’re in New York City tonight, June 9, Norah Jones is performing a free show as part of ‘Celebrate Brooklyn’ at the Prospect Park Bandshell. The concert kicks off at 8pm.

And then on Friday, June 11, Norah will be performing another free gig for Good Morning America in New York City at Central Park’s Rumsey Playfield. The concert is open to the public and takes place between 7am and 9am.

In the UK it’s just been confirmed that ‘Young Blood’ will be the next single from her critically acclaimed album ‘The Fall’, out June 28. Norah will be in the UK later this month for live shows in Manchester on June 21, London on June 22 and the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury on June 27.
