The month-long poll to find the UK’s favourite album was run by HMV to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubliee this year. ‘The Number of the Beast’ took 9.2% of the vote placing it comfortably in the top spot.

“We’re astonished and delighted to hear The Number of the Beast has been named no.1 in HMV’s Diamond Jubliee survey for the greatest British album category,” says Maiden lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson. “Some of the most influential and classic albums from the past 60 years were in the running to it’s a testament to our incredibly loyal and ever supportive fans who voted for us. Iron Maiden is a proudly British band, so to win this category as voted for by the British public, in Jubliee year, is very special. Thank you to all our wonderful fans!”

‘The Number Of The Beast’ has to date sold over 14 million copies worldwide and featuers the anthemic UK top 10 single ‘Run To The Hills’. It was not only the band’s first UK no.1 album but the first to feature the vocals of Bruce Dickinson.

In all classic EMI-released albums accounted for seven of the poll’s top 10 with Depeche Mode‘s ‘Violator’ at no.2, ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ and ‘Abbey Road’ from The Beatles at no.s 3 and 4, Pink Floyd‘s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ at no.5, and The Beatles again at no.s 6 and 10 with ‘Revolver’ and ‘The White Album’.

On November 8 the band will release a DVD/Blu-ray – ‘Tour of the Universe – Live In Barcelona’, featuring 21 tracks recorded over two sold out nights at the Palau St Jordi in Barcelona on November 20 and 21 last year.

The DVD/Blu-Ray comes with a host of extra content including four bonus tracks, a tour documentary and Anton Corbijn’s specially created screen films for seven tracks plus further montages created from the on-stage screens. Also included are the four promotional videos from 2009′s acclaimed album ‘Sounds Of The Universe’ including the Grammy-nominated ‘Wrong’

Robbie Williams won Best international male, Depeche Mode took home Best international group and Best music DVD production went to Helene Fischer.

Robbie, who collected his award from German football legend Oliver Khan (above), performed a stunning version of his current single ‘Morning Sun’ to the live show audience of 4,000 and to the millions watching the show on television. Depeche Mode were also there to pick up their award in person.

It will be the band’s first ever performance at the Royal Albert Hall and promises to be a sensational end to their acclaimed ‘Sounds Of The Universe Tour’ which has been one of the biggest world tours of 2009.

David Guetta (who you can see below with Estelle who sings the title track on his current global hit album ‘One Love’) has five Grammy nods and electrified the US TV audience with his performance at the nominations concert.

Other nominations underscore EMI Music’s multi-genre creative success – Keith Urban has four nominations, Lady Antebellum and Trace Adkins two each, while Willie Nelson and EMI CMG’s ‘Oh Happy Day’ record get three nods.

There are two nominations apiece for Coldplay, Depeche Mode and Heather Headley, and further nominations for EMI artists including Alice In Chains, The Beatles, Beastie Boys, Dierks Bentley, Rosanne Cash, Robert Glasper, Norah Jones, Greg Kurstin, Smokie Norful, Katy Perry, Pet Shop Boys, Sir Simon Rattle and Royksopp.
