Dark Night Of The Soul features Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse joined by a remarkable roll call of guests including Lynch himself, the Flaming Lips, Gruff Rhys, Jason Lytle, Julian Casablancas, Black Francis, Iggy Pop, James Mercer, Nina Persson, Suzanne Vega and the late Vic Chesnutt, in whose memory the record is also dedicated.

While this record’s release is cause for celebration, the news is shadowed by sadness following the recent passing of Mark Linkous, who released and performed under the Sparklehorse pseudonym. Dark Night Of The Soul will now stand as a de facto tribute to this well-loved, stunningly talented yet often-overlooked artist and has received the blessing of Mark’s family who have issued the following statement:  “Mark felt that it was an honor to be able to collaborate with so many of the artists on this record.  His time and dedication to this project was immense and his hopes for its release are finally being realized.  We are glad that people will now be able to hear these songs and know the beautiful gift that Mark shared with all of us through his music.”

Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse’s Dark Night Of The Soul will be released on July 12 in the UK through Parlophone/EMI and on July 13 in the US via EMI’s Capitol Records .

Launched today, June 10, the site has been designed and built by award-winning agency We Fail.

As previously announced, ‘Dark Night Of The Soul’ will be released by Parlophone Records on July 12 (Capitol Records in the US on July 13).

For this project the duo were joined by a very impressive list of collaborators: The Flaming Lips, Gruff Rhys, Jason Lytle, Julian Casablancas, Black Francis, Iggy Pop, David Lynch, James Mercer, Nina Persson, Suzanne Vega and Vic Chesnutt.

Rumours of the album have been circulating for over a year, and while a ‘Dark Night Of The Soul’ limited edition art book and blank CDR and audio-visual gallery installation were produced, this will be the first time the music has been officially available. The album will come out on July 12 through Parlophone/EMI (July 13 in the US where it will be released by EMI’s Capitol Records).

As reported earlier, in the UK, Parlophone’s getting into the action with limited edition 7″ vinyl from artists such as Babyshambles, Bat For Lashes, Chiddy Bang, Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse, Eliza Doolittle, Hot Chip, Jónsi, Lily Allen, The Pet Shop Boys and Tinie Tempah.  (Also, for UK stores only, from a band you may have heard of, The Beatles).

In the US, artists playing at the Coachella Festival will be meeting fans and signing albums at a Record Store Day tent throughout the weekend, including LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip, Zoe and David Guetta.

EMI is producing a series of special releases that will only be available through participating retailers. In the US EMI is releasing exclusive John Lennon and Sex Pistols vinyl packages, while in the UK, Mute are putting out special 12″ singles from Nick Cave and Yeasayer and a Goldfrapp cassette album and Parlopone are releasing a series of 12 special 7″ singles.

Each release, which is strictly limited (the maximum run is 1,000) comes in a vintage-style paper Parlophone house bag which utilises elements of historic sleeves from the 1960s right through to the present day.

The artists featured are Babyshambles, Bat For Lashes, Chiddy Bang, Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse, Eliza Doolittle, Hot Chip, Jónsi, Lily Allen, The Pet Shop Boys, Tinie Tempah, the band that made the label what it is today, The Beatles, and a 12th release for which details will follow in due course.
