MTV VMA Noms for Katy Perry, 30 Seconds to Mars, Gorillaz, David Guetta and Coldplay

Congratulations to EMI Music artists nominated for MTV VMA Awards, announced today. Katy Perry, 30 Seconds to Mars, David Guetta, Gorillaz and Coldplay were among this year’s nominees.

The MTV VMAs will air live from L.A.’s Nokia Theatre on Sunday, Sept. 12 in the US. MTV will performers, presenters and host as the big night approaches.

Simpsons’ Coldplay episode confirmed for UK

Coldplay appeared on the Simpsons in the US earlier this year and now the show has been confirmed for broadcast in the UK – on Sky 1 on on Thursday, May 13 at 7:30pm.

Coldplay appeared on The Simpsons on Sunday night. In the episode, ‘Million Dollar Maybe’, Homer wins a million dollars in the lottery and spends the money on a private gig from the band.

Coldplay’s website has a short video of behind the scenes footage of Chris Martin recording his lines and a clip of the show which you can watch here, and in the US the whole episode is available on the Fox TV website.

Coldplay performed ‘A Message’ (from ‘X&Y’) on Friday night at the ‘Hope For Haiti Now’ fundraiser.

Multiple BRIT noms for Lily Allen, Robbie Williams, Empire of the Sun

Great news from the BRIT Awards nominations last night where EMI Music’s artists and albums picked up impressive 18 nominations.

Our congratulations to them all – Lily Allen with a leading three nominations, Robbie Williams with two to add to his already confirmed Outstanding Contribution Awards, two for Empire of the Sun plus nods for Bat For Lashes, Coldplay, Doves, Norah Jones, Kylie Minogue, Pet Shop Boys and Spice Girls. Robbie and Lily will also peform live at the Awards show on February 16.

Commenting on the news, EMI Music UK & Ireland president Andria Vidler said: “Congratulations to all our nominees for this year’s BRITs. These nominations recognise the quality of our artists’ music and all the hard work they put in. Everyone at EMI is very proud to work with them in reaching and connecting with music lovers everywhere. Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Coldplay and Blur artwork issued as stamps

The Royal Mail in the UK have today issued a gorgeous set of postage stamps based on iconic album artwork by British artists.

Of the 10 classic covers featured, four are released by EMI – ‘The Division Bell’ by Pink Floyd, David Bowie‘s ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’, ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’ by Coldplay and Blur‘s ‘Parklife’. As you can see in the image above, they look fantastic and the Royal Mail have a series of souvenir products for sale celebrating the series.

Yes really! Well sort of, the band are auctioning off heaps of gear they’ve accumulated over the last decade, from instruments to studio equipment to platinum discs and much more. All the proceeds are for UK charity Kids Company and the auction runs until 31 December.

Beatles ’1′ is no.1 seller of the decade

Nielsen SoundScan have crunched the numbers and announced the top selling albums over the last decade in the US. And the winner? ’1′ by The Beatles which clocked up a stunning 11,499,000 sales over the decade.

And coming in at number three is the multi-Grammy winning ‘Come Away With Me’ by Norah Jones which has so far sold 10,546,000 in the US since it came out in 2002.

SoundScan also announced the top 10 digital songs of the decade in the US, including Coldplay‘s ‘Viva La Vida’ (4,140,000 sold) and Katy Perry‘s ‘Hot N Cold’ (3,945,000).

56 Grammy nominations for EMI Music artists

Congratulations to all of EMI Music’s artists who have been nominated for the upcoming Grammy Awards which will be presented in LA on January 31 2010.

David Guetta (who you can see below with Estelle who sings the title track on his current global hit album ‘One Love’) has five Grammy nods and electrified the US TV audience with his performance at the nominations concert.

Other nominations underscore EMI Music’s multi-genre creative success – Keith Urban has four nominations, Lady Antebellum and Trace Adkins two each, while Willie Nelson and EMI CMG’s ‘Oh Happy Day’ record get three nods.

There are two nominations apiece for Coldplay, Depeche Mode and Heather Headley, and further nominations for EMI artists including Alice In Chains, The Beatles, Beastie Boys, Dierks Bentley, Rosanne Cash, Robert Glasper, Norah Jones, Greg Kurstin, Smokie Norful, Katy Perry, Pet Shop Boys, Sir Simon Rattle and Royksopp.

When the nominations were announced, our CEO Elio Leoni-Sceti said: “These nominations show the creative excellence of our artists from so
many genres and so many parts of the globe. Congratulations to all EMI Music’s
nominees, their teams and management for continuing to touch the lives
