Blur – ‘Fool’s Day’ free download

Blur recorded a new song ‘Fool’s Day’ especially for Record Story Day on Saturday (April 17). 1,000 7″ vinyl copies were pressed for UK record shops and have all now sold out but don’t worry if you weren’t able to get one – ‘Fool’s Day’ is available for free digitally.

Blur manager Chris Morrison explains: “To avoid fans having to illegally obtain an inferior copy of this track from pirate sites – we have made it freely available through the band’s website.”

Record Store Day in UK: limited edition vinyl from The Beatles, Blur, plus performance from Sweet Billy Pilgrim

UK music afficianados are gearing up for Record Store Day tomorrow, April 17 and Billboard has the details. More than UK 150 Indie music retailers — almost twice the number as last year — are participating as part of this international initiative.

Nearly 110 exclusive, limited edition releases are being offered in these shops, but our advice is to show up early and call in advance to see what local shops might have in stock.

As we mentioned earlier, Parlophone is offering a number of limited edition 7″ and 12″ vinyl releases. Some lucky shoppers who hoof it into their local record shops might find treasures that are only available in the UK. Among the UK exclusives are a two-track release from The Beatles (“Paperback Writer”/”Rain”), as well as the first new studio recording from Blur in over seven years – a limited edition vinyl-only single, “Fool’s Day.” But interested shoppers should get out to participating retailers early as these releases are available in very limited quantities (1,000 copies each).

Mercury Prize nominees Sweet Billy Pilgrim are among the UK artists doing in-store performances at 3 p.m. BST at Rough Trade East in London. A limited edition vinyl single from the band will also be available at participating RSD retailers in the UK. Check the Rough Trade site for more details.

Blur’s ‘No Distance Left To Run’ film premieres in London

Graham Coxon, Damon Albarn, Alex James and Dave Rowntree were all in London last night for the premiere of ther new movie, ‘No Distance Left To Run’.

The film is a documentary about Blur, telling the story of the band in their own words as they get set to perform together for the first time in nine years. It has been getting some fantastic reviews – five out of five from the Mirror, four stars from Empire and eight out of 10 by the NME.

The film will be released on DVD, accompanied by a live recording from their Hyde Park gigs last summer, by Parlophone on February 15.

Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Coldplay and Blur artwork issued as stamps

The Royal Mail in the UK have today issued a gorgeous set of postage stamps based on iconic album artwork by British artists.

Of the 10 classic covers featured, four are released by EMI – ‘The Division Bell’ by Pink Floyd, David Bowie‘s ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’, ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’ by Coldplay and Blur‘s ‘Parklife’. As you can see in the image above, they look fantastic and the Royal Mail have a series of souvenir products for sale celebrating the series.

Blur film to hit cinemas in January

Blur have announced that a feature length documentary telling the story of the band will be released in cinemas worldwide on 19 January. ‘No Distance Left To Run’ was filmed during their 2009 rehearsals and immensely popular gigs and shows all four band members together for the first time in nine years. The film combines new footage with previously unseen archive material and tells the story of the band from their formation in the late 1980s to their triumphant Glastonbury and Hyde Park shows last summer.
