Congratulations to Corinne Bailey Rae, Laura Marling and I Am Kloot for being named among the Albums of the Year for the prestigious Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2010 in the UK. Corinne Bailey Rae and Laura Marling are both signed to EMI’s Virgin Records, while I Am Kloot released their current album on their own Shepherd Moon label in partnership with EMI Label Services.

Corinne Bailey Rae’s January 2010 release ‘The Sea’ is her first Mercury Album of the Year. To date she has won at the Grammys, the MOBOs, Q Magazine and Mojo awards and received multiple Brit and Grammy nominations. Laura Marling’s ‘I Speak Because I Can’, released in March, is the second album from Laura to be named a Mercury Prize Album of the Year following her debut, ‘Alas, I Cannot Swim’, in 2008.

I Am Kloot meanwhile make the Albums of the Year list for their recent release ‘Sky At Night’. This is the first of their five albums to be released through EMI Label Services and the first to break into the UK top 25.

As our president of EMI Music UK and Ireland, Andria Vidler, says: “Corinne Bailey Rae, Laura Marling and I Am Kloot have all released remarkable albums in 2010. These Mercury honours are a clear and well deserved recognition of their talent and creativity. Everyone at EMI is very proud to work with these wonderful artists.”
The overall winner of the 2010 prize will be announced on 7 September.
