Gorillaz announce “Escape to Plastic Beach” tour starting in October

After a summer of festival shows, Gorillaz are bringing “Escape to Plastic Beach” out for a global tour, beginning in North America this fall. The 20-date run will include a show at Madison Square Garden in New York City on 8 October.

The U.S. and Canada dates (details to be announced shortly), will be followed by a series of 10 shows across Europe and the UK, including a two-night stand at London’s O2 arena, as well as seven shows across Australia and Asia.

Gorillaz co-creators Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s new live experience encompasses material from all three multi-platinum Gorillaz albums and will feature Albarn, Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of The Clash, Bobby Womack, Little Dragon, Bootie Brown, UK Hip Hop stars Kano and Bashy and others as well as video animation, artwork, film and stage design by Hewlett.

Good Charlotte sign to Capitol/EMI

Multi-platinum rock sensations Good Charlotte announced today that they have joined the EMI family, signing to Capitol Records. Their highly-anticipated fifth full-length album “Cardiology” will be out in the US in late October, almost exactly 10 years after their self-titled debut established the band as one of the most exciting bands of the new century.

Originally formed as a pop-punk band in Waldorf, Maryland, in 1996, Good Charlotte—vocalist Joel Madden, guitarist Benji Madden, guitarist Billy Martin, bassist Paul Thomas and the latest edition, drummer Dean Butterworth—have sold over 10 million records to date and penned countless mainstream radio hits such as “The Anthem,” “Lifestyles Of The Rich & Famous” and “Hold On.”

Katy Perry unveils new artwork

Katy Perry has revealed the cover art for her not much longer to wait for album (just a month now!) ‘Teenage Dreams’.

The artwork is a portrait of Katy by renowned contemporary artist Will Cotton, and you can see it right here:

Katy and Cotton are very much mutual fans. Katy first contacted Cotton five months ago and the resulting portrait was recreated in the video for Katy’s current global smash hit ‘California Gurls’. Cotton was artistic director for the video, recreating images from his confectionary landscape work for the props and scenery.

Robbie Williams to star in his own video game

EMI and Nordic Games are teaming up to launch a brand new video game featuring the music of Robbie Williams.

‘We Sing Robbie Williams’ will be released to tie-in with Robbie’s upcoming definitive greatest hits album, ‘In And Out Of Consciousness: The Greatest Hits 1990-2010”, which is due out in October.

The new video game, the first ever to star Robbie, will feature 25 of his tracks to sing along to, all accompanied by the original videos. It will be available for Wii in October.

Mercury Album of the Year honours for Corinne Bailey Rae, Laura Marling and I Am Kloot

Congratulations to Corinne Bailey Rae, Laura Marling and I Am Kloot for being named among the Albums of the Year for the prestigious Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2010 in the UK. Corinne Bailey Rae and Laura Marling are both signed to EMI’s Virgin Records, while I Am Kloot released their current album on their own Shepherd Moon label in partnership with EMI Label Services.

Corinne Bailey Rae’s January 2010 release ‘The Sea’ is her first Mercury Album of the Year. To date she has won at the Grammys, the MOBOs, Q Magazine and Mojo awards and received multiple Brit and Grammy nominations. Laura Marling’s ‘I Speak Because I Can’, released in March, is the second album from Laura to be named a Mercury Prize Album of the Year following her debut, ‘Alas, I Cannot Swim’, in 2008.

I Am Kloot meanwhile  make the Albums of the Year list for their recent release ‘Sky At Night’. This is the first of their five albums to be released through EMI Label Services and the first to break into the UK top 25.
