Pink Floyd and EMI sign new global agreement

LONDON, 4 JANUARY 2011 — Pink Floyd, one of the world’s most popular and successful bands, and their long time record company EMI Music, today announced that they have signed a new global partnership.

Under the new five-year agreement, EMI Music will continue to market and distribute Pink Floyd’s catalogue. All legal disputes between the band and the company have been settled as a result of this new deal.

EMI Group CEO Roger Faxon commented: “Pink Floyd are one of the most important and influential bands of all time and I know I speak for everyone at EMI when I say that it is a privilege to have the opportunity to work with them. We’re looking forward to continuing to help the band reach new and existing fans through their incredible body of work.”

Pink Floyd have inspired and entertained audiences around the globe for more than four decades with work that includes seminal albums such as ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’, ‘Wish You Were Here’ and ‘The Wall’. They have sold over 200 million albums worldwide.  In the US alone, 1973′s ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ has sold 45 million copies and is America’s third best-selling album ever.

The band have recorded a total of 14 studio and three live albums. ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ has spent more time on the Billboard catalogue chart than any other album in history. ‘The Wall’ has been certified platinum an incredible 23 times (23 million copies) in the United States.  Other Pink Floyd albums include global multi-million sellers such as ‘Wish You Were Here’, ‘Animals’, ‘A Momentary Lapse of Reason’ and ‘The Division Bell’. The group have won multiple awards around the world and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the US in 1996 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005.
