National Public Radio in the U.S. is featuring legendary crooner Nat King Cole today as one of its “50 Great Voices” today.
The story on Cole, “an American trailblazer” and Capitol Recording artist, is here. One commentator remarked: “If I’d gotten a spanking one day, Nat’s voice would smooth that out.”

The feature also offers five little-heard tracks by Cole. In addition to being one Capitol Records’ major breakthrough stars, Cole broke numerous barriers, defying genre categorization and as one of the first black artists to break through to mainstream audiences and to perform on national television.
