The new Gorillaz album, ‘Plastic Beach’ is topping charts around the world, coming in this morning at #2 on the US Top 200 Chart and #1 on the Digital Album and Alternative Album charts with 112,011 units sold. That bests first week sales and chart numbers in the US for the now-double-platinum ‘Demon Days’ when it entered the chart at #6, with 107,000 units sold in 2005.
‘Plastic Beach’ has also gone to #1 in Australia and Austria, #2 in the UK, France, Belgium, Switzerland and the pan-European chart, and #3 in Canada, Germany and on the Japanese international chart.
Meanwhile, EMI’s red hot trio Lady Antebellum, currently in the middle of a huge North American tour, came in at #3 on the US album chart, after spending the previous 6 weeks in the #1 and #2 slot.
