Free Energy, LCD, Raekwon among EMI artists at Pitchfork Festival this weekend

Several bands that are part of the EMI family are descending upon Chicago to play at this weekend’s Pitchfork Music Festival.  Brooklyn-based LCD Soundsystem, Staten Island native and Wu-Tang Clan member Raekwon, Canada’s Broken Social Scene, California-by-way-of Brooklyn band Liars and Philadelphia-based band Free Energy are among those taking the stage.

Free Energy front men Scott Wells and Paul Sprangers (who signed to EMI-distributed DFA records) recorded their album, “Stuck on Nothing” with DFA co-founder and LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy playing bass and manning the mixing desk, and LCD’s Pat Mahoney on drums.

Pitchfork describes Free Energy’s sound as “very un-DFA…high-fidelity, guitar-heavy and totally unironic AM-rock sound evokes classic touchstones from Tom Petty to Thin Lizzy.”

Here’s a Free Energy video clip to give you a taste.
